Ask the Expert: LILY & ROO Founder Brittany
For this installment of Ask the Expert, LILY & ROO founder Brittany Preston shares the inspiration behind her brand, her approach to designing bridal jewellery, and her top styling recommendations.
MEET BRITTANY
After working a decade in the jewellery industry, I noticed there wasn't a lot of choice out there for women who wanted beautiful, affordable pieces for the special moments in their lives - particularly their wedding day. I myself really struggled to find bridal jewellery that I would continue to love and wear long after my big day.
What inspired you to create LILY & ROO?
I created LILY & ROO to offer modern, meaningful jewellery that brides could treasure long after their wedding day. I wanted them to feel confident, elegant and truly themselves!
How do you recommend choosing jewellery that feels timeless but still personal?
Start with classic silhouettes — pearls, delicate chains, refined studs, and personalise them through engraving, layering, or subtle design details that reflect your individual style.
When designing bridal pieces, do you lead with emotion or aesthetic?
Always emotion first. The aesthetic follows naturally when a piece is designed with purpose and sentiment!
How do you recommend styling jewellery differently for wedding ceremonies, receptions and into the evening?
Ceremony - keep the look refined and elegant - classic pearls or delicate diamonds paired with a subtle necklace or bracelet.
Reception - introduce a touch more personality, perhaps with layered pieces or a slightly bolder earring to reflect the celebratory atmosphere.
Evening party look - this is the moment to embrace statement jewellery - striking earrings or layered necklaces that feel modern and expressive.
How would you describe the LILY & ROO bride?
She is effortlessly elegant, thoughtful in her choices, and drawn to timeless pieces with a contemporary edge. She loves looking into trends, but still stays authentic to her personal style.
What’s the biggest mistake brides make when selecting wedding day jewellery?
Over-accessorising. Jewellery should enhance the bride, not compete with the dress or distract from the overall look.
What pieces transition beautifully from wedding day to everyday wear?
Delicate pearl earrings, fine chain necklaces and understated bracelets are timeless choices that can be worn long after the celebration.
