Ask the Expert: Bridal Photographer Luke Josheph

How would you describe your photography style, and what drew you to wedding photography?

Having spent seven years in fashion photography, I naturally developed a strong eye for detail and a love of creating beautiful, editorial-style portraits. At the same time, I'm drawn to the genuine, unscripted moments that make every wedding unique.

I'd describe my style as a blend of editorial and documentary photography – knowing when to quietly observe and when to gently guide creates a gallery that feels both timeless and authentic

What are your top tips for couples when choosing their wedding photographer?

Choose someone you genuinely connect with. Your photographer is with you for most of your wedding day, so feeling comfortable around them is incredibly important.

When there's a natural connection and trust, it shows in your photographs. The best images happen when you can relax, be yourselves and simply enjoy the moment.

What's the biggest wedding photography trend you're seeing this year?

I'm seeing a real shift towards simplicity and intentional design. While grand floral installations will always be beautiful, many couples are embracing a more minimal approach that allows the emotion, the people and the meaningful details to take centre stage.

It creates timeless imagery that feels elegant without trying too hard.

What's the best way for couples to feel relaxed and natural in front of the camera?

A pre-wedding or engagement shoot can make such a difference. It allows you to get comfortable in front of the camera, understand how your photographer works and build that relationship before the wedding day.

By the time the wedding arrives, everything feels much more natural and relaxed.

Which moments throughout the wedding day do you think are the most important to capture?

For me, it's the preparations, the portraits and the candid moments.

The morning is full of anticipation and beautiful details, portraits become the photographs couples often frame and treasure for years, and candid moments tell the real story of the day – the laughter, emotion and atmosphere that make every wedding unique.

How can jewellery and bridal accessories elevate wedding photographs?

Every bride looks beautiful on her wedding day, but thoughtfully chosen jewellery adds another layer of elegance and personality.

Delicate accessories complete the overall look and bring a refined finish that photographs beautifully without ever overpowering the bride herself.

Do you have any tips for photographing bridal jewellery beautifully?

The best opportunity is usually during bridal preparations. It's one of the few moments where everything slows down enough to focus on those delicate details.

Taking the time to photograph jewellery before the celebrations begin allows us to showcase its beauty in a thoughtful and creative way.
