We spoke with Rebecca Valentine, founder of Rebecca Valentine Design, about her approach to luxury wedding planning, the details couples often overlook and why atmosphere, guest experience and personal storytelling should be at the heart of your wedding day.

How did you find your way into wedding planning, and what drew you to the wedding industry?
My route wasn't a conventional one. I’ve been working with UEFA for 15 years, delivering VIP hospitality for Champions League and club competition finals across Europe, and I still do that work today alongside running Rebecca Valentine Design.
It taught me everything I now bring to weddings: an obsession with atmosphere, precision in every single detail and the understanding that a truly extraordinary event isn’t just seen, it’s felt.
Weddings simply gave that same discipline a far more personal, emotional canvas to work on.
What is your favourite part of the wedding planning process?
For me, it’s the day itself. Running the wedding is where I really come into my own.
It’s fast-paced, high-pressure and completely unpredictable, and that’s exactly what I love about it: managing every supplier in real time, solving problems before the couple even knows there was one and reading the room so I can shift the mood or pacing whenever needed.
Months of planning matter, but it’s that ability to adapt on the spot and keep everything moving seamlessly while it looks effortless from the outside that’s the real skill, and honestly, the part I find most exciting.
What is the defining wedding trend of this year?
Honestly, I’d push back slightly on the idea of a ‘trend’. The couples I work with aren’t trend-led at all; they’re experience and feeling-led.
What I am seeing across the board, though, is a real focus on the party itself. Couples are investing heavily in the atmosphere of the celebration, the music, the energy and the moment the dance floor opens, rather than chasing a particular aesthetic.
It’s less about how the day looks in a single photograph and more about how it feels to actually be there. But all my weddings do look incredibly beautiful!
What are couples prioritising when planning their weddings right now?
Guest experience is, without question, at the top of the list.
Couples are thinking far beyond the ceremony and reception itself, how guests move through the day, what they’re served, how they’re welcomed and the small comforts that make people feel genuinely looked after.
Alongside that, personal storytelling through design has become just as important as the venue itself. Couples are using details, styling and even scent or sound to reflect who they are and tell their story.
How can couples create a wedding that feels timeless but still personal?
Start with a strong design foundation: a considered palette, quality materials and classic silhouettes, then layer in the personal.
Timelessness comes from restraint and craftsmanship; personality comes from the details you choose to place within that structure.
A beautifully tailored dress or classic tablescape will always feel elegant years from now, but it’s the individual, considered touches, a piece of jewellery with meaning or a menu that tells your story that make it unmistakably yours.
What small wedding details make the biggest difference?
It’s never necessarily the big-ticket items; it's the atmosphere.
Lighting shifts as the day moves from ceremony into evening, the moment a welcome drink is handed to a guest rather than left for them to find, and music that’s paced to build energy rather than simply fill silence.
These are the details that make a day feel rather than simply watched.
Get the atmosphere right and everything else, the styling, the food, the flowers, lands ten times harder.
What part of wedding planning do couples often overlook?
The pacing and flow of the actual day, how it moves from ceremony to drinks, dinner and the dancefloor, and how guests are carried through each shift.
Couples pour so much energy into how things look and can forget to plan how the day will actually feel to live through.
I’d recommend thinking about this early, alongside booking the venue. It shapes the entire architecture of the day and can be the difference between a wedding that’s beautiful and one that’s genuinely unforgettable.
How important is bridal jewellery when bringing the wedding look together?
Enormously important!
Jewellery is often the final, most personal layer of the bridal look and it can completely transform how a dress reads.
The right pieces add polish, tell a personal story and often become some of the most treasured elements of the whole outfit long after the wedding day itself.
I always encourage brides to think about jewellery early, ideally once the dress silhouette is confirmed, so the pieces can be chosen to complement the overall look rather than being treated as an afterthought.
What bridal jewellery trends are you seeing right now?
Personalised and meaningful pieces are having a real moment. Brides want jewellery that tells a story, not just something beautiful.
Alongside that, we’re seeing a strong pull towards delicate, minimalist designs that feel timeless rather than trend-led, as well as an appetite for pearl jewellery as a classic, elevated alternative to diamonds.

The Gold Ten Pearl Choker is right up my alley!
It’s the kind of piece that makes a genuine statement. That full row of pearls sitting right at the collarbone has real presence and catches the eye, but because it’s rooted in something as classically bridal as pearls, it will never feel dated or tied to a particular moment.
That balance is exactly what I look for in every design decision: something with impact that still feels timeless.
What are your top three pieces of advice for couples planning their wedding?
Put the atmosphere first.
A wedding should be felt, not just photographed. Every choice should serve the feeling you want your guests to leave with.
Don’t be afraid of impact.
Bold doesn’t have to mean excessive. The best days strike a balance between real statement moments and total elegance.
Plan the feeling of the day, not just the look of it.
Pacing, energy and flow matter just as much as styling, and they’re what turn a beautiful wedding into an unforgettable one.
